I posted an ad to sell a digital camera. Several replied and asked for my contact and address so that money can be sent to me. Is this a type of scam?

I found a website where the person who made the site is actually from my city. Would it be out of character if I called to ask him about the money? My father has been retired for 7 + years and he doesn’t get out much. He gets excited over strange “government” emails from Africa, Europe and Asia stating he was won or are qualified for 1,000,000,000,000 dollars. And they will send a part of it over to him. The sad part is he [...] I mean, they protect consumers from every type of scam except religious scams, and religious scams are probably the most common type of scam and the probably most profitable.
