I think what you could do, is check with the labor commission in your state, or the state the company is in, they can usually tell you if it is legit business, or give you any info they might know on the company. Hope it helps.
You can check it out at http://www.snopes.com I have this posted in my blog today also. They have a place to post scams and other stuff. I always go to that site before I believe anything.
